Perichemotherapy antibiotics appeared associated with longer survival among patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma treated with gemcitabine, according to retrospective study results.
Researchers did not observe the same benefit among patients treated with fluorouracil.
Prospective studies are needed to further investigate the potential effects of perichemotherapy administration of antibiotics on outcomes for gemcitabine-treated patients with metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, investigators concluded.
Healio spoke with researcher Daniel J. Fulop, an MD/master of science in clinical research candidate at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, about the findings and their potential implications.
