Joyce Ohm, PhD, has been named chair of cancer genetics and genomics at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Ohm — an epigenetics researcher who joined the institution as associate professor of oncology in 2016 — also will serve as John and Santa Palisano endowed chair of cancer genetics.
Ohm — who has more than 25 years of experience in cancer research — has made important contributions in multiple areas, including tumor-associated immune suppression and identification of genetic mutations that drive response to therapy.
Her other interest areas include translocation-associated sarcomas, environmental exposures and tumor initiation, stem cell biology and molecular signatures for lung cancer.
“As we look to position Roswell Park as a global leader in combining epigenetic therapy and immunotherapies, I can think of no better person to help guide our team than Dr. Ohm,” Renier Brentjens, MD, PhD, deputy director and chair of the department of medicine at Roswell Park, said in a press release. “Her rigor and determination are palpable in a field that has tremendous potential and impact for [patients with cancer] and loved ones. We are excited to see where she takes it next.”
