Arif Kamal, MD, MBA, MHS, chief patient officer at American Cancer Society, spoke with Healio about two national roundtables the society will launch to drive progress against breast cancer and cervical cancer.

“We see these two cancers as being very important to bring national leadership and thought attention to,” Kamal told Healio.

The formation of these roundtables followed President Biden’s relaunch of the Cancer Moonshot, intended to reduce the cancer mortality rate in the United States by at least 50% over the next 25 years.

“[The roundtables will] provide a national, centralized, convening mechanism to bring all of the stakeholders together to talk about these important cancers and chart a future together that reduces health disparities and increases outcomes for these important cancer populations,” Kamal said.

In this video, Kamal explains how the roundtables will work, the timeline participants will follow and what American Cancer Society ultimately hopes to achieve through the process.
