VIDEO: Survivorship care education integral for all health care professionals
Lidia Schapira, MD, spoke at the virtual Cancer Center Survivorship Research Forum about the importance of integrating cancer survivorship care at all levels of training from medical school to opportunities for continuing medical education.
“We’re going to need everybody — generalists and specialists — to care for cancer survivors as the numbers grow, especially as the number of older cancer survivors grow,” Schapira said. “It’s important for all health care professionals to understand that exposures to cancer treatments may impact future health and that the experience of having gone through cancer and cancer treatment might leave psychosocial sequelae as well.”
