To optimize outcomes for patients with breast cancer, efforts should focus on improving multimodality treatment options and reducing delays to treatment, according to Debra Pratt, MD.

Pratt and colleagues investigated an association between overall survival and the duration from diagnosis to completion of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. The retrospective findings, presented at SABCS 2020, suggested that a week or longer delay in the completion of all three treatment modalities may worsen survival outcomes.

“We need to be efficient with our care for breast cancer patients,” Pratt advised.
