The 62nd annual ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition will not be held in San Diego as planned.

Instead, society officials announced that they will conduct an all-virtual meeting on the same dates — Dec. 5-8 — due to the continuing threat of COVID-19.

“[Although] there is no replacement for the excitement and camaraderie of the in-person ASH annual meeting or the beautiful backdrop of San Diego, we are excited by the unprecedented opportunity to reimagine our meeting on an innovative digital platform built for learning, collaboration and networking,” a statement from the society read. “Most importantly, a virtual meeting ensures the safety of our global audience while providing greater accessibility and flexibility for you to consume world-class scientific content in the way that is most convenient for you.”

Meeting registration has been paused temporarily, and an online registration site for the virtual meting will be available Aug. 31. Those who already registered will be contacted by the end of this month so they can cancel their registration and receive a refund or convert their registration to the virtual meeting option. Hotel reservations will be canceled.

ASH also announced the abstract submission deadline for this year’s meeting has been extended until Aug. 10.
