The organizers of HemOnc Today New York canceled this year’s meeting amid growing concern about the spread of the new coronavirus.

The meeting had been scheduled for April 16-18 at Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.

Organizers monitored COVID-19 updates and recommendations from CDC and WHO, as well as state and local governments. They also followed travel advisories and restrictions placed on health care providers, hospitals and institutions in the United States and around the world.

“The health, safety and well-being of our attendees, faculty, exhibitors, supporters and other stakeholders cannot be put at risk during a known health crisis,” meeting organizers said in a statement.

Because the meeting is planned a year in advance and requires extensive coordination with Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel to accommodate scheduling and group size, postponing the event is not an option.

Healio LIVE will reimburse preregistered attendees for their meeting registration fees, and exhibitors will be reimbursed for their exhibit space fees, according to the statement.

Meeting attendees and exhibitors who booked hotel reservations through the official room block at Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel should cancel their reservations. Those who made hotel reservations outside the meeting’s official room block should contact their vendor directly to cancel.

Attendees and exhibitors also should contact their airline or other transit systems to cancel their tickets.

The organizers of HemOnc Today New York wished to thank everyone involved in planning the meeting, including the program co-directors, Sanjiv S. Agarwala, MD, Edward S. Kim, MD, FACP, FASCO, and Joyce A. O’Shaughnessy, MD; the nearly 30 faculty members; and industry exhibitors, supporters and sponsors.
