VIDEO: Laparoscopic vs. open surgery results in similar outcomes for colorectal metastases

CHICAGO — Laparoscopic surgery was associated with similar OS and RFS rates compared with open-resection surgery in patients with colorectal liver metastases, according to findings presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting.

In this video, Yi-Qian Nancy You, MD, MHSc, FACS, reviews long-term data from the OSLO-COMET study.

“The findings of the study are very important because it really opens the door for us to treat patients in a minimally-invasive fashion,” You told HemOnc Today.

However, she noted the results must be interpreted with caution since the study was performed in a single facility with “a high level of expertise.”

“I think more works needs to be done to figure out whether the same results can be replicated in a wider setting,” she said.
