CHICAGO — Thomas A. Gallo, MS, MDA, took over in March as president of Association of Community Cancer Centers.

Gallo — director of Virginia Cancer Institute — chose burnout as the theme for his 2018-2019 term.

In this video, he tells HemOnc Today about the prevalence and causes of burnout among all members of the cancer care team. He also highlights the strategies that can be implemented to improve engagement, increase effectiveness and ensure productivity.

“The environment has become increasingly complex over the last few years,” Gallo told HemOnc Today. “We really need to focus on taking care of all health care workers so they can take care of the patients. There definitely has been a high correlation between having engaged, healthy workers and having good results.”
