Ronald A. Sacher, MD, has been appointed the 2018 president of the American Clinical and Climatological Association.
Sacher, a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member, is director of Hoxworth Blood Center at University of Cincinnati.
“The [association] is a multidisciplinary organization of people who have leadership in American medicine,” Sacher said in a press release. “We have members who are presidents of universities, as well as leaders and deans of medical schools and department chairs. It’s a very prestigious organization. This is truly one of the highlights of my career.”
The American Clinical and Climatological Association was organized in 1884 by physicians and scientists who wanted to improve medical research, practice and education in the United States.
Its initial focus was tuberculosis and the ability to treat it through residence in an appropriate climate.
The association’s interests have since expanded to all clinical and scientific areas of medicine, but it continues to retain its interest in the effects of global climate change on disease and health. The association’s active membership is limited at 250 physicians.
