Stephen Solomon, MD, chief of interventional radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has been named president of the Society of Interventional Oncology.

“I am very excited to take on this opportunity to promote interventional oncology as an emerging field of cancer medicine,” Solomon, a member of Memorial Hospital and professor of radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College, said in a press release. “Using advanced imaging and sophisticated tools, we can help patients with minimal invasiveness in order to definitively treat patients and/or preserve patient quality of life.”

Willi am S. Rilling , MD — vice chair of clinical operations in radiology, and professor of radiology and surgery at Medical College of Wisconsin — has been chosen president-elect. Riad Salem, MD, MBA, will serve as treasurer.

The society also announced its new directors-at-large. They are Alban Denys, MD; Nahum Goldberg, MD; Alexis Kelekis, MD; Kevin Kim, MD; and Costantinos Sofocleous, MD.

The society’s board of directors establish policies and programs, and they also help govern, supervise and control society affairs.
