NEW YORK — Sanjiv S. Agarwala, MD, program director for HemOnc Today Melanoma and Cutaneous Malignancies, provided an overview of key takeaway messages from the two-day symposium.
Agarwala — professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, as well as chief of oncology and hematology at St. Luke’s Cancer Center, discussed skin cancer prevention; genetic insights into melanoma progression; the advantages and disadvantages of melanoma screening, including the potential role smartphones can play in detection and diagnosis; the use of lymphadenectomies; and the role of biomarkers and molecular testing in the clinical setting.
