VIDEO: Highlights from the 2017 HemOnc Today Melanoma and Cutaneous Malignancies meeting
NEW YORK — Sanjiv S. Agarwala, MD, professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, chief of hematology and oncology at St. Luke’s Cancer Center, and a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member, discussed highlights from HemOnc Today Melanoma and Cutaneous Malignancies.
“2017 was another year and another exciting meeting, [with] a lot of good information to learn and digest,” Agarwala told HemOnc Today.
Some of the highlights of the meeting include discussions on: ongoing trials for adjuvant therapy and which patients should be treated with certain therapies; the debate regarding immunotherapy and targeted therapy for patients with BRAF–positive, metastatic disease; updates on treatment for other cutaneous malignancies, like Merkel cell carcinoma; and emerging therapies for the future.
“What I learned is that there are too many options,” Agarwala said. “This is a problem in terms of what to do next, but it’s a good problem to have. There was lots of good information, and hopefully even more good information [will be presented] next year in 2018,” Agarwala said. – by Melinda Stevens
