Radiation oncologist named American Brachytherapy Society fellow

Eric M. Horwitz, MD, has been named one of the American Brachytherapy Society’s 12 inaugural ABS fellows.

Horwitz, chair of the department of radiation Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been with the institution for nearly 20 years. During that time, he has worked to expand its radiation oncology treatment options and patient volumes.

Under Horwitz’s leadership, Fox Chase implemented an MRI treatment simulator into prostate cancer treatment and became the first cancer center in the northeastern United States to offer high–dose rate brachytherapy implants to men with prostate cancer.

Horwitz previously served as the president and board chair of the American Brachytherapy Society. He has held the Gerald E. Hanks chair in radiation oncology at Fox Chase since 2009.

“This is a tribute to Dr. Horwitz’s fine career, and his contributions to the field of brachytherapy and to the American Brachytherapy Society,” Steven Frank, MD, president of the society, said in a press release.
