VIDEO: Speaker highlights key takeaways in multiple myeloma

CHICAGO — Saad Z. Usmani, MD, FACP, director of the plasma disorders program at Levine Cancer Institute at Carolinas HealthCare System and a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member, offers insights into key myeloma-related presentations at the ASCO Annual Meeting.

Topics include a clinical trial that compared use of conventional chemotherapy with autologous stem cell transplant in newly diagnosed patients.

“The data favored progression-free and overall survival benefits toward transplants, and that’s the trend that we have seen in several trials in the novel therapy era,” Usmani said.

Usmani also discusses a meta-analysis that evaluated patients in the posttransplant setting, as well as research that focused on combination therapies.
