The American College of Radiology named its new officers and also presented several awards during its annual meeting.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) board of chancellors elected James A. Brink, MD, FACR, as its chair. Brink is radiologist-in-chief at Massachusetts General Hospital and Juan M. Taveras professor of radiology at Harvard Medical School.

“A long-time advocate for radiology and high-quality patient care, James Brink has shown outstanding leadership in every ACR role in which he has served, most recently as vice chair,” William T. Thorwarth, MD, FACR, CEO of ACR, said in a press release. “We look forward to his continued outstanding leadership as chair of the ACR board of chancellors.”

The board elected the following other officers:

  • Geraldine McGinty, MD, MBA, FACR, assistant chief contracting officer and assistant professor of radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine and assistant attending radiologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, will serve as vice chair;
  • Howard B. Fleishon, MD, MMM, FACR, chief of radiology services at Emory Johns Creek Hospital and division director of community radiology services within its department of radiology and imaging services, will serve a second term as secretary-treasurer;
  • Bibb Allen Jr., MD, FACR, diagnostic radiologist at Grandview Medical Center, will serve as president; and
  • Cheri L. Canon, MD, FACR, professor and chair of radiology and Witten-Stanley endowed chair of radiology at University of Alabama at Birmingham, will serve as vice president.

ACR also honored three individuals with the 2016 Gold Medal. Recipients were Walter J. Curran Jr., MD, FACR, executive director of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Lawrence W. Davis professor and chair in Emory's department of radiation oncology, and a HemOnc Today Editorial Board member; Lawrence P. Davis, MD, FACR, vice chair and program director of the departments of radiology at North Shore University Hospital; and Charles D. Williams, MD, FACR, of Capital Regional Medical Center and Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Hospital.

“All three of the ACR honorees have provided visionary leadership and extraordinary service, which continue to advance high-quality patient care in the fields of radiology and radiation oncology,” Allen said in the release. “Drs. Curran, Davis and Williams embody the best in today’s medicine in their work as physicians and in their roles as contributors to the collective good of the profession.”

In addition, Mary Jane Donahue, former assistant director of ACR’s board of chancellors and executive projects, received the Distinguished Achievement Award.
