In this video with Healio.com, Samir Gupta, MD, of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine reviews the methods available for colon cancer screening other than colonoscopy.

Gupta reviews the benefits and drawbacks of four alternative screening tests, including sigmoidoscopy, the Guaiac fecal occult blood test, the fecal immunochemical test and the multitarget stool DNA test.

“I think offering options to patients is extremely important, because completing screening … is much more important than which test gets done,” he said. “… The good news here is that our patients have a number of options to try to reduce their chances of developing, and dying from, colorectal cancer.”
