VIDEO: Newly formed consortium focuses on enhancing quality of rectal cancer care
The creation of the Consortium for Optimizing the Treatment of Rectal Cancer, a program focused on improving rectal cancer care in the Unites States, is “one of the more exciting developments” in the subspecialty in recent years, according to David Dietz, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic.
Dietz describes the program’s development and early activity, as well as some of the standards used to assess quality of care. “The program is really centered around the process of patient care and, most specifically, around the multi-disciplinary team approach to patients,” he said.
A pilot program is ongoing and surveys will be conducted at participating institutions to assess the consortium and implement changes, according to Dietz. The consortium is expected to open for enrollment later in 2016.
