Kenneth Newkirk, MD, FACS, has been appointed medical director of the Head and Neck Oncology Surgery Program at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, part of Meridian Cancer Care.

Newkirk spent the previous 13 years on faculty at MedStar-Georgetown University Hospital, where he served as associate professor and residency program director of head and neck surgery in the department of otolaryngology. He also served on MedStar-Georgetown’s GME committee and credentialing committee.

His recent research efforts have focused on the role of post-operative PET/CT scans in treatment planning for salivary gland malignancies, the role of multimodality treatment on OS for patients with metastatic or recurrent HPV-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, the role of stereotactic body radiation in head and neck cancers, and cancer of the thyroid and parathyroid.

“We are proud to welcome Dr. Newkirk to our expanding multidisciplinary team of cancer experts. As an accomplished surgical oncologist, he will play a key role in the continued development of the head and neck program at Meridian Cancer Care,” Mark Krasna, MD, corporate medical director for Meridian Cancer Care, said in a press release.
