The AAAS elected her as a fellow because of her “distinguished contributions in hematology research,” particularly those that have helped improve understanding of the functional relationship between the dissolution of blood clots and formation of new blood vessels.

“It is an honor to have our lab’s research recognized by the AAAS,” Hajjar, also a professor of cell and developmental biology and of pediatrics in medicine, said in a press release. “I’m very grateful to Weill Cornell for providing the collegial and stimulating environment that has allowed our work to flourish. I hope this award will provide greater opportunities to interact with leading biomedical scientists, teachers and policymakers.”
