Mount Sinai names vice chairman of urology
Ketan Badani, MD, professor of urology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has been named vice chairman of urology and robotic operations at Mount Sinai Health System.
Badani also will serve as director of the health system’s kidney cancer program, as well as director of robotic surgery at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai Roosevelt.
“Dr. Badani brings an innovative approach to treatment of kidney disease,” Ash Tewari, MBBS, MCh, chair in urology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and chairman of the department of urology at The Mount Sinai Hospital, said in a press release. “He is one of the most talented physicians in urology and we are so fortunate to have him join our team.”
Badani has performed nearly 4,000 robotic procedures. He developed the surgical technique known as FAST Robotic Partial Nephrectomy, which removes the cancerous portion of the kidney through tiny openings, and leaves normal, functional kidney tissue in the body.
“My goal is to grow our comprehensive kidney program into the world-class center spanning the treatment spectrum including surgery, ablation, surveillance, nephology, interventional radiology and complementary medicine,” Badani said in a press release.
