PCORI opens comment period on peer review, release of research findings draft

The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute approved its draft proposal process for peer review and public release of primary research findings and has opened a public comment period that will close on Friday, Nov. 7.

“Our proposed peer review process and open science framework aim to advance the transparency and quality of useful new evidence,” Joe Selby, MD, MPH, PCORI executive director, said in a press release. “We expect to benefit greatly from input during the public comment period for the draft peer review proposal and we look forward to issuing the final process.”

A public forum will be held on Sept. 29 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. EDT. Registration is open until 5 p.m. EDT, Sept. 24. A free webcast also will be available, with details made available before the event.

PCORI said comments will be analyzed and revisions will be made to the draft proposal as necessary. A final proposal is expected to be presented to the PCORI board for consideration for adoption in February or March.

PCORI was established as a result of legislation in the Affordable Care Act. It was authorized by Congress in 2010 to fund research designed to give patients, caregivers and clinicians evidence-based information, as well as to fund comparative clinical effectiveness research, the release said.
