Hem/onc appointed NCI board vice chair

Richard Drachtman, MD, interim chief of pediatric hematology/oncology at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, has been appointed vice chair of the NCI Pediatric Central Institutional Review Board (PedCIRB).

Drachtman, also a professor of pediatrics at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, is recognized for his clinical expertise and research in childhood cancer and sickle cell disease. He has served on the NCI PedCIRB board since 2009.

The board reviews NCI-sponsored pediatric clinical trials conducted by the Children’s Oncology Group, the world’s largest pediatric cancer research entity. The panel includes pediatric oncologists, nurses, childhood cancer survivors and consumer advocates.
