Nurses association elects new president
The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses recently elected Jami Gattuso, MSN RN, CPON, to serve as its president.
Her term will run through 2015.
Gattuso, a nursing research specialist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., has served on the association’s board of directors and various committees since 1993. She served on its mentoring task force, steering council and research committees. She also served as director-at-large from 2007 to 2010.
In addition, she has been a contributing author for various book chapters, including the second edition of the Essentials of Pediatric Oncology Nursing.
Gattuso’s vision for her presidency is to promote the association’s mentoring program, increase communication to membership regarding the legislative advocacy work done by association representatives, and further the association’s efforts to provide access to evidence-based practice guidelines and nursing research.
“I am so excited about the future of the Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses,” Gattuso said in a press release. “Our membership works tirelessly to provide support to nurses who care for pediatric, adolescent and young adult hematology and oncology patients, and their families, so that they can provide the very best care to them.”
