John Deeken, MD, has been named the associate director of clinical research and medical oncology at Inova Comprehensive Cancer and Research Institute.

Deeken will help with the development, contracting and approval processes for clinical trials at Inova, based in Falls Church, Va. He also has been named a fellow of the Inova Translational Medical Institute, where he will help introduce genomic-based therapy into the cancer clinic.

Deeken previously served as the director of Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center’s Head and Neck Medical Oncology Clinic.

“John has a depth of experience in early phase clinical research and shares my strong belief that in the near future we will study each patient genomically to be confident we are giving the right drug at the right dose to treat our cancer patients,” John E. Niederhuber, MD, CEO and director of Inova Comprehensive Cancer and Research Institute and CEO of the Inova Translational Medicine Institute, said in a press release.
