Eddie Reed, MD, has been named clinical director for the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities’ intramural research program.

Reed will oversee outpatient, inpatients, epidemiological, clinical and laboratory-based studies. He also will lead the institute’s effort to enhance the recruitment and retention of minorities and patients from other underserved populations in clinical trials.

“Dr. Reed is a world-renowned oncologist with extensive experience managing clinical trials and translating science into health,” John Ruffin, PhD, director of the institute, said in a press release. “The breadth of his knowledge of health disparities and public health, and the depth of his experience in cancer pharmacology, will serve us well.”

Reed’s research has focused primarily on DNA damage and repair in cancer cells in response to pharmacological anticancer agents.

Reed previously served as professor of oncologic sciences and Abraham Mitchell Distinguished Investigator at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center Cancer Institute.
