Center announces awards, appointments

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center recently announced the following awards and appointments:

• Steven M. Larson, MD, received the 2012 Benedict Cassen Prize for Research in Nuclear Medicine, which is presented by the Society of Nuclear Medicine.

Larson is vice chair for research in the department of radiology and a member of the molecular pharmacology and chemistry program. His research focuses on the experimental aspects of molecular imaging and targeted radiotherapy.

Julio Garcia-Aguilar, MD, PhD

• Julio Garcia-Aguilar, MD, PhD, has been named chief of the colorectal service in the department of surgery and incumbent of the Stuart H. Q. Quan Chair.

Garcia-Aguilar’s research focuses on improving the quality of life of patients with rectal cancer by performing smaller operations, as well as by identifying individuals whose tumors might respond sufficiently to radiation and chemotherapy, thereby avoiding surgery.

• John H. Healey, MD, chief of the orthopaedic service and vice chair for conferences and education in the department of surgery, has been named to the Stephen McDermott Chair in Surgery.
