Brian Leyland-Jones

Brian Leyland-Jones, MB, BS, PhD, has been appointed director the Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Research program and the breast cancer center at Sanford Health, an integrated health system headquartered in Fargo, N.D., and Sioux Falls, S.D.

Leyland-Jones is known for his leadership in the development of novel clinical trials and how genomics plays a pivotal part in the advancement of individualized cancer therapies in the fight against breast cancer.

“We live at a pivotal moment in cancer research, when the interface of deep genomic profiling and targeted therapies has the potential of transforming breast cancer,” he said in a press release.

Leyland-Jones previously served as associate vice president and director of the Emory Winship Cancer Institute. Before that, he was the Minda de Gunzberg Chair in Oncology and professor of medicine at McGill University in Montreal.

“He’s an experienced leader with a national reputation in genomics, a passion for this cause and an extensive background that surpasses most,” Eugene Hoyme, MD, Sanford’s research president, said in the release.
