Paul S. Viviano has been appointed CEO of UC San Diego Health System and associate vice chancellor for health sciences.

Viviano most recently served as CEO of Alliance Healthcare Services, which provides outpatient diagnostic imaging services and radiation oncology services to more than 1,300 hospitals. He will continue to serve as a member of Alliance’s board of directors.

Viviano previously served as president and CEO of USC University Hospital and USC/Norris Cancer Hospital.

“Mr. Viviano has a solid track record of strategic leadership and entrepreneurism that drives results,” David Brenner, MD, vice chancellor for Health Sciences and dean of the School of Medicine at UC San Diego, said in a press release. “He has a hands-on philosophy of working with clinicians and researchers to ensure outstanding patient care — exactly the kind of skills needed to elevate levels of innovation and quality as UC San Diego Health System grows.”
