Medical blog round-up
There are a few interesting medical and cancer related blogs and websites that you may not be aware of. Allow me to introduce a few of them to you here. ;)
Dr. Len's Cancer Blog on the American Cancer Society website is written by Dr J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, who is a medical oncologist, and the Chief Medical Officer for the national office of the American Cancer Society. The formatting on the site is a bit clunky, but the information in the entries is quite good, and I like that it is aimed at patients and their families.
KevinMD is written by Dr. Kevin Pho, who is a primary care internist. I like his blog because he updates frequently, and his entries are short and quick and you can usually tell from the title whether it is something that applies to you — making it an ideal blog to read with an RSS Feed if you are so inclined. This blog is really meant for medical professionals.
Ted Eytan is a family physician who works in medical informatics and patient-centered health care. I find his posts refreshingly honest and patient focused. He has more of a policy and technology lean to his blog.
The National Public Radio cancer blog continues even though Leroy Sievers has died. Now his widow writes the entries. This is a blog with a fierce following — of many cancer patients themselves — and the comments section is frequently more interesting than the entry. Laurie Sievers is struggling to find meaning from her husband's death — and she writes about it beautifully.
Well is a general health blog meant for the lay public with daily updates . The topics can be all over the map, but cancer comes up not infrequently.
