A new continuing medical education meeting, HemOnc Today Breast Cancer Review & Perspective, will be introduced to oncologists and nurses this spring.

Taking place March 23-24, 2012, at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, the meeting will include distinguished experts who will offer community oncologists and nurses perspective on research presented at ASCO, Miami Breast Cancer Conference and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, so that attendees may evaluate and apply as appropriate the new science and therapies available.

Among the 15 faculty members presenting at the meeting are members of the HemOnc Today Editorial Board and the faculty of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital. The program format will consist of didactic lectures, keynote addresses on critical topics, interactive case presentations and open discussions to enhance patient care decision-making expertise.

“The revolution in genomics has led to a new generation of diagnostics and therapeutics that are being applied in breast cancer and changing standards of care,” said Debasish “Debu” Tripathy, MD, the Program Director for HemOnc Today Breast Cancer Review & Perspective and a member of the HemOnc Today Editorial Board. “As new research findings emanate from the laboratory and clinical trials, community oncologists have a clear need to understand the evidence-based benefits, drawbacks and decision-making processes for optimal care.”

Tripathy, of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital at the University of Southern California, is Professor of Clinical Medicine, Priscilla and Art Chair in Women’s Cancer and Co-Leader of the Women’s Cancer Program. USC Norris is a leader in cancer research, is part of the Keck School of Medicine, and is designated by the NCI as one of the nation’s 40 comprehensive cancer centers.

“HemOnc Today is committed to being the definitive information resource for oncologists since 2000. In addition to our print, online and mobile offerings, we now have two live educational events — one focused on melanoma and now another on breast cancer,” said Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, Senior Vice President of SLACK Incorporated, publisher of HemOnc Today. “We’re also very pleased to welcome the faculty of the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital to the HemOnc Today family.”

HemOnc Today Breast Cancer Review & Perspective is jointly sponsored by HemOnc Today and Vindico Medical Education. Vindico Medical Education is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and will provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credits to attending physicians. Vindico Medical Education has been awarded “Accreditation with Commendation” by the ACCME.
