Hot Topic: Pediatric AD
Benjamin N. Ungar, MD, assistant professor of dermatology and director of the Rosacea & Seborrheic Dermatitis Clinic at Mount Sinai, spoke with Healio about:
- what’s new in pediatric atopic dermatitis;
- research underway at Mount Sinai to develop minimally invasive biomarkers that help identify and track disease responses;
- considerations when treating children, like understanding non-verbal ways very young children express themselves and the challenges of “balancing” the risk of side effects with topical steroids while still appropriately treating the disease; and
- the “collaborative effort” needed between dermatologists, pediatricians and parents when treating young patients with AD.
