PHILADELPHIA — There is an uneven distribution of dermatologists in the United States. In Texas, for example, most individuals in the state lack access, according to Rachel Day, MD, FAAD, chief medical officer of Zest Dermatology.
Beyond geographic barriers, many patients delay care due to their busy schedules, Day told Healio.
In this video at the National Psoriasis Foundation’s Take ACTION Philadelphia event, Healio Dermatology Chief Medical Editor Joel M. Gelfand, MD, MSCE, spoke with Day about her efforts to bridge this gap in care through teledermatology.
“We find that parents of small children and working professionals have a difficult time making it to the dermatologist,” Day said. “Or, when they need to get in, there isn’t immediate access for a flare. We’ve been able to really meet that need of high access for immediate care.”
