Silk Road Medical announced that it has launched the next iteration of its transcarotid stent system in the U.S.
The new tapered configuration (Tapered Enroute Transcarotid Stent System) provides additional configurations for tailored transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR) with a short delivery system for precise stent placement, according to a press release from the company.
The system is the only commercially available transcarotid stent system indicated for patients at elevated risk for adverse events from carotid endarterectomy, according to the release.
The initial version of the device received FDA approval in 2014.
“The new tapered stent is a welcome addition to my TCAR toolkit, further differentiating the company’s core product offering,” Joseph V. Lombardi, MD, MBA, FACS, professor and chief of vascular surgery at Cooper University Health Care, said in the release. “The ENROUTE stent has always provided comprehensive lesion coverage and durable procedural outcomes, but I now have more options to customize treatment to each patient's anatomy.”
