Impulse Dynamics announced it received FDA and CE Mark approval and launched its miniature next-generation cardiac contractility modulation therapy delivery system.

According to a company press release, the therapy delivery system (Optimizer Smart Mini CCM) is designed to improve heart contraction and is smaller and lighter with increased battery longevity compared with company’s currently marketed cardiac contractility modulation therapy delivery system.

The new miniature delivery system also offers advanced HF diagnostic monitoring capabilities and remote patient monitoring features that will be activated in the near future, according to the release.

“I’m excited about the potential of this device to improve quality of life in patients already on optimal medical therapy,” Rhea Pimentel, MD, director of the electrophysiology lab at the University of Kansas Medical Center, who had implanted the new device in a premarket evaluation, said in the release. “We’ve had a lot of experience with CCM using the Optimizer Smart device, but the next-generation Optimizer Smart Mini CCM is simpler to implant and more comfortable for patients.”
