In this video, Anu Lala, MD, associate professor of medicine (cardiology) at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, discusses key takeaways from the American College of Cardiology Scientific Session regarding HF.

Lala discussed the SODIUM-HF trial, which showed that a strong restriction of sodium to less than 1,500 mg per day, was not effective in preventing HF hospitalizations.

“It challenges the traditional notion that we tell our patients as clinicians that we must restrict sodium,” Lala said. “It’s always fascinating to test traditional dogma. This isn’t to say don’t sodium restrict at all, but this strict restriction may not lead to clinical benefit.”
