PHILADELPHIA — In this video exclusive, Michael Snyder, PhD, chair of the department of genetics at Stanford University, highlights the potential of big data in health.

Snyder discusses the need for a proactive, rather than reactive, focus in medicine, using advanced technologies and other aspects of big data to take measurements — for example, DNA sequencing and deep profiling of blood and urine — while people are healthy to follow them at an individual level and ultimately keep them healthy.

“By bringing all of these new technologies [to the forefront], we can actually get a … better picture of your health and be able to catch disease early when it happens, and even prevent it in the first place, we hope,” Snyder told Healio.
