A system to detect heart murmur with artificial intelligence has received FDA clearance, according to a press release from eMurmur.

The system (eMurmur ID) consists of a third-party electronic stethoscope, mobile application, web portal and AI-based analytics and can be used to detect the presence or absence of pathologic and innocent heart murmurs, in addition to S1 and S2 heart sounds, according to the release.

Five studies with more than 1,000 patients has shown the system’s accuracy, according to the release.

“The eMurmur ID solution has the potential to disrupt medical care,” Derek Exner, MD, professor and Canada research chair in cardiovascular clinical trials at University of Calgary, said in the release. “This system has been shown to be accurate, informative and easy to use. It provides health care professionals with a potent screening tool and method to confirm their clinical diagnoses, enhancing patient care.”
