VIDEO: ‘International crisis’ of PE at forefront of vascular intervention
In this video exclusive, Kenneth Rosenfield, MD, MHCDS, discusses recent advancements and ongoing challenges in addressing the “international crisis” of pulmonary embolism.
Despite a high mortality rate for PE, “it is an area where there is a huge gap in our knowledge base, and so we’re trying to fill that gap,” Rosenfield, section head of vascular medicine and intervention at Massachusetts General Hospital, Cardiology Today’s Intervention Editorial Board Member and past president of the Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) Consortium, said.
Rosenfield highlights topics related to PE at the recent International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy, including use of clot-busting devices, considerations involving inferior vena cava filter placement and the role of thrombolysis.
