VIDEO: Paclitaxel, CLI epidemic among hottest topics at ISET

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — The International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy featured a number of pressing topics, including the paclitaxel mortality controversy and novel treatments that could help patients with critical limb ischemia, the meeting’s program director told Cardiology Today’s Intervention.
At this year’s meeting, the spotlight was on the safety of paclitaxel-coated devices, which Barry T. Katzen, MD, founder and chief medical executive of Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute at Baptist Health South Florida, said is going to “continue to be an evolving discussion item” in the field of vascular intervention.
Katzen also highlights new potential for “out of the box” treatments such as overhydration and chelation in the treatment of patients with CLI, and how cutting-edge therapies such as stem cells and a fluoroscopy-free catheterization process may revolutionize endovascular intervention.
