Medtronic launches mobile app to interact with pacemakers
Medtronic announced the launch of a mobile app designed to interact with patients’ pacemakers through their smartphones and tablets.
According to a press release from Medtronic, the app (MyCareLink Heart) is compatible with its existing technology-enabled pacemakers and sends encrypted wireless data to the app’s network through smart technology. The company stated the software eliminates the need for dedicated bedside monitors and other remote monitoring hardware.
“For the first time, pacemakers have the ability to communicate securely and directly with technology that patients use every day like smartphones and tablets,” Aisha Barry, vice president and general manager for Medtronic’s connectivity and insight business, said in the release. “This brings the benefits of remote monitoring seamlessly into patients’ lives, potentially leading to enhanced and more efficient patient engagement with their physicians.”
Medtronic stated in the release that the app will feature information including transmission history, tracking of vitals, battery longevity, physical activity and a symptom journal.
