VIDEO: New insights on renal denervation, top research from TCT 2018

SAN DIEGO — In this video exclusive, Chandan Devireddy, MD, FACC, FSCAI, provides his perspective on top research presented at TCT 2018.

The IMPERIAL trial, which compared two drug-eluting stents in patients with peripheral artery disease, “is setting a new standard for what will be our … first-line choice for stent-based therapy,” Devireddy, associate professor of medicine and associate fellowship director with Emory University, told Cardiology Today’s Intervention.

Devireddy, a Cardiology Today Next Gen Innovator, also highlighted the SOLVE-TAVI trial, which showed equivalence of a self-expanding valve and a balloon-expandable valve for 30-day outcomes and also of a local or general anesthesia strategy during TAVR.

Devireddy’s third highlight was “the excitement and interest that is burgeoning again behind the field of renal denervation and sympathetic modulation for the treatment of high blood pressure.” As new data continue to accumulate, “based on what we’ve seen at this meeting I think there’s a lot more to expect from [this field] over the next year or two,” he said.
