VIDEO: Technological advancements for carotid stenting persist

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — In this video exclusive, William A. Gray, MD, focuses on the future of carotid artery stenting, from mesh-covered stents to integrated embolic protection.

Gray highlights three main areas of active interest in carotid artery stenting (CAS) technology: strategies to address minor stroke, strategies to address late stroke and strategies to address non-ipsilateral stroke.

Several new technologies are currently being explored or are close to validation, according to Gray, system chief of the division of cardiovascular disease at Main Line Health and president of the Lankenau Heart Institute in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.

Watch the full video for an update on mesh-covered stents, an integrated system that combines a stent, post-dilation balloon and embolic protection filter, direct carotid access with high rate flow reversal with transcarotid artery revascularization, and more.
