Grants launched to study extracellular matrix, CVD
The American Heart Association and The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group together will issue two $1.5 million grants to researchers studying the extracellular matrix in heart health, according to a joint press release.
The extracellular matrix, a network of protein fibers that stores information, may provide avenues to better understand and treat CVD.
“This collaboration between us and the [AHA] is poised to make a tremendous impact on the field of [CV] research,” Tom Skalak, PhD, executive director of The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, said in the release. “The role of the extracellular matrix in heart disease is a frontier topic ripe for exploration, and we are pleased to be embarking on this path of discovery with world-renowned experts in the field.”
The deadline to submit applications is May 10, and the two awardees will be announced in June.
