Biotronik announces approval, availability of MR-conditional tachycardia lead
Biotronik announced that the world’s smallest MR-conditional tachycardia lead for use with implantable cardioverter defibrillators and HF devices is now available in the United States.
The lead (Plexa ProMRI) was recently approved for use by the FDA and is now commercially available, according to a press release issued by the company.
“This is another advancement in efforts to further improve the performance and maneuverability of ICD leads,” Theofanie Mela, MD, an electrophysiologist from Massachusetts General Hospital, said in a press release. “Patients who require ICDs are understandably concerned about reliability and that underscores the need for durable ICD leads to choose from.”
The 7.8F lead will be available in DF4, DF-1 and DX configurations and is compatible with a variety of patient anatomies, and extends to the area between the distal and proximal shock coil without impacting electrical impedance, according to the release.
