Consulting service for remote patient monitoring launched
ECRI Institute announced it is now offering a consulting service to help hospitals implement remote patient monitoring systems.
Remote patient monitoring can be used as a strategy to help reduce hospital readmission, which is a common problem for patients with HF or ACS. Research suggests that 20% to 40% of patients hospitalized for HF and 5% to 15% of patients hospitalized for ACS will be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days of discharge.
Monitoring systems can help hospitals improve care and reduce costs by intervening before patients require rehospitalizations, according to a press release issued by the institute.
ECRI Institute stated that the new consulting service guides hospitals through process of starting a remote patient monitoring system.
According to the release, the service will assess the hospital’s needs, help the hospital choose the most appropriate monitoring solution and set up a program for evaluation of success; in addition, it will assist in determining patient selection criteria and system protocols and training.
“Hospitals need a trusted partner to help them explore what is essentially uncharted territory for reducing patient readmissions. ECRI is uniquely qualified to empower leaders to take on the challenges of developing and implementing a successful remote patient monitoring program,” Thomas E. Skorup, MBA, FACHE, vice president of the applied solutions group at ECRI Institute, said in the release.
