HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — In this Cardiology Today’s Intervention video exclusive, John M. Moriarty, MD, a diagnostic radiologist from UCLA, discusses the highlights from ISET 2017.
According to Moriarty, two of the most important topics covered at the meeting were sessions devoted to patients with venous conditions and pulmonary embolism.
“You could see the enthusiasm with the huge size of the crowds and the excellent speakers,” he said, “I think something we're seeing increasingly at all meetings, whether it's interventional radiology, pulmonology or cardiology, is the move toward a multidisciplinary team approach and this is certainly something that has been at the forefront of people's minds for a while, but really has been put into action over the last short time.”
In treatment of conditions as diverse as critical limb ischemia, carotid artery disease and aortic dissection, “working in a team seems to … not only give you a good working environment, but also give the best outcome to the patient, which is, of course, the most important thing,” he said.
Much can be learned by talking to people who a physician may not typically cross paths with, Moriarty said.
“What I find is that discussing the way that someone else does something completely different to me, possibly better, maybe just different, can really be very instructional,” Moriarty said. “From my own practice, I always come away from ISET with something new, something that I have either been doing for years and have been doing it either the wrong way or in a way that can be done better, or most importantly, something that I haven't been doing at all that I really should be doing and that certainly has been the case here again this year.”
