Upcoming conference highlights advances in lipidology

The National Lipid Association Clinical Lipid Update in August will feature keynote addresses from leading experts in the field, including Neil J. Stone, MD, FACC, FNLA, Edward Fisher, MD, PhD, FNLA, and Robert Eckel, MD, FNLA.
From Aug. 26-28 in Amelia Island, Florida, cardiologists, endocrinologists, general practitioners and other attendees will gather to hear the latest updates in lipidology. Attendees will gain real-world perspective on how to manage patients with dyslipidemias and overcome common obstacles in their practice.
- On Aug. 26, the opening keynote session, presented by Stone, will address the importance of primary prevention and the challenge of early intervention for the clinician, according to a press release. Stone is a cardiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, medical director at the Center for Vascular Disease of the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute and the Robert Bonow Professor of Medicine in preventive cardiology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
- On Aug. 27, the keynote session will focus on atherosclerosis, with a presentation by Fisher titled “Regression of Atherosclerosis: The Journey from the Liver to the Plaque and Back.” Fisher is professor of cardiovascular medicine at New York University School of Medicine, director of the Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease at NYU Langone Medical Center, and director of the Marc and Ruti Bell Program in Vascular Biology.
- On Aug. 28, Eckel will discuss statins and type 1 diabetes, covering questions about timing, dosage, and the difference between the atherosclerotic process in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Eckel is the Charles A. Boettcher Endowed Chair in Atherosclerosis in the department of medicine at University of Colorado.
Other notable experts in the field including Ira Goldberg, MD, FNLA, and Peter W.F. Wilson, MD, FNLA, will also be speaking at the NLA Clinical Lipid Update, according to the release.
