The American Heart Association announced it is collaborating with Amazon Web Services to provide cloud computing services for its Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine.

Under the terms of the agreement, recipients of grants from the institute will receive credits from Amazon Web Services that can be used for its computational storage and analysis functions. The AHA will fund the research expenses, including salaries, according to an AHA press release.

The institute’s efforts are aimed at advancing precision medicine approaches to cardiology practice, including conducting research on systems biology, including the genes, environment and lifestyle of individuals and populations, according to the release.

“The AHA and [Amazon Web Services] collaboration will unite the global research community to accelerate discovery in [CV] health and usher in a new era of tailored prevention and treatment that will help patients and lessen the global burden of [CVD],” Nancy Brown, CEO of the AHA, said in the release.

The program offers data mining grants, methods validation grants, innovative development grants and fellowship awards, according to the release.
