VIDEO: David Rubenson, MD, lauds improvements in CV imaging, application
SAN DIEGO — In this video, David Rubenson, MD, director of the cardiac noninvasive laboratory at Scripps Clinic Medical Group, Green Hospital, La Jolla, Ca., details why the expanded use of imaging in structural intervention was the “most exciting” information to come from the annual ACC Scientific Sessions.
According to Rubenson, the echocardiography lab is increasingly playing a role in structural intervention treatments for CV disease, not only for diagnosing patients but also in pre-procedural planning and guiding therapy, particularly in transcatheter aortic valve replacement and mitral valve procedures.
Rubenson also highlights how the combination of 3D echo, CT and MRI in fusion imaging is improving perspective for interventionalists and ultimately patient care, as well as how the interaction between specialists is refining clinical evaluations and cost assessments.
“The quality of the imaging is getting better and better … then the application gets broader and broader,” Rubenson said.
